Punta Cana Destination Wedding Photographer | Sheila and Jiar
What could be better than photographing a gorgeous tropical wedding on beach in the Dominican Republic? When the bride in that wedding is an old friend from college!
Sheila and I went to Boston University together (we were both board members for one of the Latino student groups on campus), and I was so honored when she and Jiar asked me to be their wedding photographer. I was even MORE excited when they told me the wedding would be in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Logistically, planning to photograph a destination wedding in another country is a bit more complex than just traveling within the US, but it is so worth it. Traveling for their wedding was an amazing adventure, and I look forward to more destination weddings in the future.
On the big day, I arrived at the venue and was completely in awe of how gorgeous it was and how thoughtful each element of the day was. They had a live painter, who created the most beautiful painting of their wedding ceremony, which was attended by family and friends who had traveled from near and far to be there. One of their very talented groomsmen sang during the processional. Sheila and Jiar ‘jumped the broom’ - an African American tradition with roots in Ghana - at the end of their ceremony too. Their bride and groom portraits were timed perfectly to get an amazing twilight photo of the two of them on the beach before the reception began, and the cake was on a FLOATING stand - I’ve never seen anything like it! After dinner, the party really started, with dancing by the pool. It was such a fun night, the epic shots of guests jumping in the pool at the end of the night pretty much say it all.
This was by far, one of my favorite weddings ever! Sheila and Jiar, thank you so much for including me in it!
